Here's a little known fact, but the bold "3" was once the domain of the potent Ray Fox/Junior Johnson '63 chevy (actully, Smokey Yunick's cars before that) . In the late '60's Fox had switched to Dodge chargers, and the "3" was carried to glory by Buddy Baker. When Richard Howard commissioned Junior Johnson to resurrect Chevrolet in the factory withdrawing days of '71, the number chosen for the new Monte Carlos was the bold "3". When Richard Childress finally heeded Junior Johnson's advice to become a car owner, instead of a driver, the "3" wound up at RCR. But others will remember when RCR drivers, other than Dale, Sr., drove #3 Childress cars.
