Joe was the reason I never became an Earnhardt fan. As a Petty fan, I pulled for Joe - a supposed Petty protege and an LMS/ARCA winner in Petty Dodges - in his rookie season as he competed for ROTY against Ironhead, Texas Terry, and Handsome Harry Gant. What a rookie class. Turns out Joe disappeared from the scene first. But my die had already been cast - I was not an Earnhardt fan because he beat the King's guy.
