This picture is from 1971, a promo to Charlotte's (then) up-coming "National 400". CMS promoter, Richard Howard, had expanded the Chevrolet effort (via the Junior Johnson alliance) from one (Charlie Glotzback #3) to include LeeRoy Yarborough #98, and AJ Foyt #27. Howard reasoned: If one competitive Chevy would fill the stands, THREE should REALLY pack 'em in.Close observers will note that the #98 LeeRoy Yarborough entry is sponsored by none-other than Sam Ard's long-time (Busch-LMS) team owner/sponsor Thomas Bros. Country Ham, Asheboro, NC. Best I recall, Bobby Allison in the H-M/Coke Mercury won the race, and the Chevys all were vicitims of unforturnate racing 'luck'.
hey ray, i like that one
