NIAGARA FALLS — Camillo Gagliardi passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Lockport on January 21, 1929, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Adele Rusniak Gagliardi.
Cam, with his brother, Philip, owned and operated Gagliardi Brothers in Gasport, for 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was an extremely accomplished racecar driver, racing at Ransomville and Lancaster Speedways he also raced in some of the first races at Daytona International Speedway, the year it was built. He enjoyed flying airplanes and r/c airplanes, as he had his private pilot's license, he also enjoyed scuba diving. Cam also played semi-pro football with the Lockport Esso's.
Camillo is survived by his wife of 14 years, Paula (nee McConnell) Gagliardi. He was the father of David K. Gagliardi of Medina and Lynn (Bruce) Truesdell of Lockport; step-father of Thomas (Sue) Ohol, Jr. and Dyan (Timothy) Regester, both of Pendleton and Andrea (Bruce) Blakelock of Lewiston; grandfather of twelve and great-grandfather of six. Camillo is also survived by his brother, Philip (Evelyn) Gagliardi of Lockport.
Friends are in invited to a Memorial Service on Monday morning at 11 AM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated by the family.
