The mods put on a great show at Richmond. Before they returned in 1990, I researched every single entry blank for every Virginia State Fair NASCAR National Championship race that had ever been run on the old Richmond half-mile dirt. We invited all of the living drivers for the return of the Tour Modified show and inducted every one of them into the Strawberry Hill Mod Squad signifying they'd raced on the dirt in NASCAR mods at the State fair NASCAR races. Every one of those retired drivers got aan embroidered corduroy hat proclaiming them a member of the Strawberry Hill Mod Squad. Wendell Scott was too sick to attend. It was the last public appearance for Runt Harris before his death. Many other great drivers there that day like Ray Hendrick, Sonny Hutchins and two time National Modified Champion Eddie Crouse are no longer with us. The old time retired NASCAR modified stars had a ball watching the guys like Mike "Magic Shoes" McLaughlin, "Tiger" Tom Baldwin, Jaimie "Tomato Head" Tomaino, Ed Flemke, Jr., Mike Ewinitsko, the Fuller brothers and all the others run on the Richmond track. It was a spectacular show. Not sure what year the above photo is, but it may be that first mod appearance on the Richmond 3/4-mile in 1990.
