In the above victory lane photo of Ray Hendrick after winning first annual Blue Ridge 320 at North Wilkesboro Speedway on March 16, 1969.
Noticed that Ray Hendrick was wearing a red "FIRESTONE" patch jacket over his race uniform.
Wonder if Ray Hendrick was covering his "GOODYEAR" patch race uniform with a red "FIRESTONE" patch jacket ? 😀
He did it before In the 1968 500 Laps (Cardinal 500 Modified) race, Ray Hendrick just won the race on Firestone race tires. There he was in Victory Lane smiling hugging his wife; smiling being interviewed by Bob Montgomery; smiling with car owner Jack Tant, Miss Martinsville-He 😀 Only problem, Ray Hendrick had to borrow an red "Firestone" patch jacket from Ted (Hairfield?) to cover up his Ray Hendricks "GOODYEAR" patch race uniform. On his old race uniforms, you'll see Ray Hendricks or Ray Hendrick names listed. Ray Hendrick put an extra (s) = Ray Hendricks used it as a gag joke to the news reporters.

Photographer Beverly Hamer on left sadly passed in February 2013 in Nashville. She was extremely talented and introduced me around the Nashville racing scene. She took the terrific photo in the Nashville infield of the first Dale Earnhardt fan club that I call "The Nashville Crew." R.I.P. Bev. She was a good friend.
