My old friend, Bud Moore's prediction as quoted in that same 1978 Popular Mechanics article didn't come true either: However, many of us still remember NASCAR's later disastrous V-6 experiment in the Busch Series. That had to be the most irritatingsound ever heard at any NASCAR track.
But the real NASCAR downsizing occurred for the 1981 season.
