The race was originally scheduled for May 11th. USAC superstar A.J. Foyt was scheduled to race. The race was rained out, however, and rescheduled for May 25. The Indianapolis 500 was the following Friday, May 30th, and Foyt had already won the pole on the first day of qualifying. He honored his agreement with the promoter and/or USAC, raced, and finished second to Don White.

We lost Don White without much fanfare on April 29, 2016. I was fortunate to watch Don drive to a 2nd place finish in a NASCAR Grand National race at Rockingham in October 1966. http://stockcar.racersreunion.com/group/donwhitefans
