These are Midgets running at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The blue #6P in the lower right is Tony Stewart, running for Ralph Potter. Tony started running Busch and Indycars in 1996.

I agree. The cup races are mediocre, they had to have known that running other series there would be equally dull. The Grand-Am races are equally yawn-inducing. I have a feeling that as attendance wanes for the cup cars that NASCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are looking for any gimmick in order to pay the costs of keeping the track open for those few days. But it's not just NASCAR's wisdom that we should be questioning. Look at the above picture again. Would you want to be calling a race that has three #6 cars running nose-to-tail?

Thanks for clearing that up! I was out in Indiana and someone comped me the tickets to see the Fastmasters race that was part of ESPN's Thursday Night Thunder. The midgets race was on the same bill, and I'd never seen one before. I enjoyed it immensely; much better than the Fastmasters.Years later, as I was digitizing my photos, I remembered that Tony used to run midgets. I only had two photos of that race, and one was blurry. I started researching on the web and believed that I had gotten lucky. I don't remember a lot about that race, but it allows me to make the idle brag that I saw Stewart before he was famous. Coincidentally, I'd been staying in Columbus, Tony's home town, they night before.I miss the Thursday Night Thunder shows. They were much better racing than what we get now.

Andy---We ran with these guys in USAC and NAMARS. For a real show , go see the midgets on a short dirt track !!
