Legendtorial ~ Racing - Past and Present
By: Tim Leeming
Our “tag-line” or motto here at RacersReunion is “Where Legends and Fans Unite." Our Mission Statement here is as follows:
Reveal, Preserve and Celebrate Racing History.
Establish a living, growing historical document.
Educate Young fans.
Give older fans a walk down memory lane.
Recognize all who participated and contributed to motor racing, especially those who made history without making headlines.
Always provide support for local and regional racing programs.
Provide a platform to discuss and compare racing then and now.
Part of the program, without being actually included in the mission statement, is the caveat to help the older fans deal with the shock of losing things the way they were. Wasn’t there a song once about “The Way We Were”? Yep, I think so. I can almost hear that playing in my mind now.
Recently, in an exchange of e-mails with a good friend, I was more or less told that this site has lost its appeal to many folks, some previous members here, because we have abandoned our original mission and are now engaged in regular, sometimes argumentative discussions, on present day NASCAR. While I give my friend the affirmation that I am very much a part of those present-day NASCAR discussions, I will not hold myself out to be “guilty” of doing so, for to so state would leave an opinion that what I have done, and what is often the topic of discussion, is wrong, a violation of our Mission Statement. My feelings on the subject are quite to the contrary of feelings that should be considered guilty or even considered a rejection of our original intent here at RacersReunion.
