Savannah Speedway
The 1/2 mile Savannah, GA Speedway enjoyed a life-span of about 20 years, from the early 1960's to the early '80's. Initially, the track was dirt, but was paved around 1970. Savannah hosted the NASCAR Grand National series throughout the 1960's including three events in the 1964 season. Richard Petty was the most successful driver of the era, with victories in the '64, '67 and 1970 events. Today, the track is an open pit mine.
I spent many Friday nights there.
Grand American cars ran there as well.
