March 7, 1976 Another pic of Dave in victory lane from Brian's collection.  Lennie Pond was leading with about 50 laps to go. But an encounter with Ed Negre ended his day & sent him plummeting down the finishing order. Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough and Dave Marcis were running close together - though King's 43 was down on power. With 12 to go, Cale simply let his #11 get away from him. He hit the outer guard rail and then sailed towards the inside where he came to rest on the nose of a fire truck. Judging by the damage, it looks like the fire truck won the battle. - Donald Evans  pic Following that caution, Marcis was able to capitalize on Petty's limited horsepower and Cale's misadventure to take the lead. He had to endure yet one more final caution & had one lap to hold on to his lead. He did so & took home the trophy. 1. Dave Marcis 2. Richard Petty 3. Bobby Allison - just 1 week after his wild wreck at Rockingham 4. Cale despite a DNF with 12 laps to go 5. Terry Bivens - a career best of his limited Cup career Race report from  Observer-Reporter
