No. The right front tire was in the fire wall, the windows were blown out, the car was in bad shape. They had to rig up a spindle on the RF just to load it. Eddy Stafford never talked much about it but he said he had to hose out the blood before they loaded the car. The car was repairable but not at the track. I think it was sold to some guy from Iowa that raced dirt.

I think the Jerry Bledsoe book stated that the crew was trying to repair the car. This is the first photo that I've seen of the wreck and I was surprised at how bad the car was caved in on the right side. That was a strange race. Isaac had it won and he blew up, then Pearson had it won and he blew up. Brooks won it in his only start in the Johnny Crawford Plymouth. I think this was the last win by a Plymouth in Cup. Some irony... in the 1972 Winston 500 at Talladega, Isaac and Pearson were battling for the win coming to the white flag. Crawford crashed in front of the pair coming off turn four and collected Isaac with Pearson barely escaping and going on to win.

The car was not repairable at the track. The right front wheel was in the fire wall and the car was twisted. They had to rig up a spindle for the RF just to load it. Eddy Stafford was with Larry his whole career and doesn't speak of the accident much. What I have heard him say was He had to hose the blood out of the car before they loaded it. He said they never thought about getting the car back out, they knew it was bad. The belts didn't "fail" but he hit so hard that he bent the steering wheel and knocked the headrest off the rollbars where it was welded. He was slammed around in there badly. The belts were loose or pulled loose no one really knows. I had forgotten the deal about Icaac & Pearson. That track has some bad mojo always has.

I was at Talladega when This happened . I was with Bobby Jones and the Tommy Gale Mercury , which only lasted 18 laps , going out with distributor problems .When Tommy's car dropped out , I walked back to the garage area , and Larry's car was covered with a tarp , someone in the garage saw me , and raised the tarp showing the right front wheel , which was pushed back into the firewall , he then lifted the tarp to uncover the right door window area , and it was not a sight I wanted to see , but still do to this day .I was told that the oil reservoir had broken loose when he hit the wall and had then hit Larry . I really don't know , you hear things .
