After a lot of hard work this year was another success at MGR. Tim thornton along with his trusty sidekicks,Larry Smith and Bunny Coker, pulled off what some would have deemed impossible.
At approximately 2 PM those famous words rang true and clear once more. Yes Tim proudly picked up the mike and said---" Ladies and Gentlmen" start your engines.
And I did say that right, there was a Lady driving her dads famous car. See if you can spot her on the video of the festivities.
With Rex White leading the cars off the front straightaway in the Mike Smith Chevrolet Camero the cars fired off a sound that brought tears to many and smiles to everyone.
The sound echoed the walls when the cars wound up on the backstretch like it was Bristol----But wait, wasnt it said this track was competition to Bristol anyway?
IAfter 5 glorious laps the checker Flag was thrown and then the flag once again made a winner lap around the track with all cars in tow.
If you were not there you missed a very moving segment because this time the laps were accepted by everyone of concern.
There were interviews made of drivers that showed their pride in the track and how they loved racing and some moving interviews also.
This presentation was organized with vendors n order and various wares displayed around the infield . Also the Great customs from around the region were there in force. They were stretched from the first turn all the way back to turn three with the front stretch being two wide.
Cody Densmore from the great N.Georgia Museum of racing made his appearance know by selling the SCENE magazine published by Racers Reunion.
All in all I think this is a track on its way into history "AGAIN" in Georgia. I dont think there is another that has set dormant for so long to revived back into the limelight as Middle Ga Raceway has done, and I think this ole girl has a lot left to show her loving fans.
A few of our seasoned drivers did not make it this year but I hope everyone has them in their dreams. One in particular is Bob Moore. Why you say? well Bob was a prominent person in getting a lot of things quietly put in place so we could enjoy our track again.. The Ga Gang Still Lives.................................................Memories
