I USED TO FEEL FAIRLY SAFE IN THE GRANDSTANDS AND EVEN INFIELD AT THE RACETRACKS. NOW I'M BEGINNING TO WONDER AFTER YESTERDAY'S RACE.

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND NASCAR HASA NEW "HAVE AT IT" PHILOSOPHY WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO LET DRIVERS SHOW MORE AGRESSION AND EMOTION.

THE EDWARDS/KESOLOWSKI CRASH WAS VERY FRIGHTENING TO SAY THE LEAST.

JUST HOW SAFE IS THIS NEW "MANDATE"? SHOULD EDWARDS BE SUSPENDED/FINED?

We were wondering where the boundaries were with this new mandate. I think we'll see NASCAR make it clear that Edwards was well outside the boundaries. Anything they allow to happen will escalate....always has. They had better nip this one in the bud and give some clear definition as to how much is allowed.

I'm torn. On one hand we all want to see the drivers loosen up a little and be themselves, be more like us, not corporate spokesmen everytime the camera is on them. But safety is something that we must insist on. Should NASCAR look at this and say, "Brad was fine and uninjuryed so we don't need to do anything." I can't see that happening, even though I think many fans today want to see blood. On the other hand should NASCAR say, "This is unexceptable and we are going to let you sit at home for the Bristol race," I think many fans would cry out What happened to let the drivers handle it. At the end of the day safety must win out.I think the tracks should have a standing rule, when the green flag drops any unused seats are open to anyone sitting near the bottom of the stands. No need in making fans sit in harms way when safer seats are avaliable.

I think that Edwards should be suspended, and fined. This new "Have at it" philosophy that NASCAR has adapted is great, I mean heck rubbins racin right?!? BUT, there is a difference between a "Love tap", and an overly aggressive "wack". I also think that common sense should come into play on this, I mean hold off on the retaliation for a slower track!

IMO, NASCAR marketing, in an effort to boost interest for the 2010 season, launched the "have at it" philosopy. Like most of its leaders and all of its marketers nobody runnin' NASCAR seems to have NO clue. They've promptly put themselves squarely into a corner.......... a no-win-situation just 4 races into the season. Another great job guys! They simply can't have a "have at it" mentality......EVEN if it increases awareness. Too dangerous. Edwards has a point, Keselowski has a point, and NASCAR is somewhat to blame too. NASCAR will be reluctant to ban any driver, due to sponsors; and fan sentiment seems to be against Edwards..... they are between a rock and a hard place.

Janet Gutherie (in her recent Racers Reunion radio interview) made a chilling observation: (and I'm paraphrasing) ............."If a race car goes into the stands, it could be the end of ALL of it............" Anybody wanna bet against that bit of wisdom in this spill-a-cup-of-coffee-win-a-million-dollars, no-fault, tree-hugging culture?
