Many of you have heard Jim Streeter on the Tuesday night show, "Racing Through History" and have commented as to how much you enjoy his stories. Jim is the 81 year old (THIS TIME I CHECKED) racer from North Carolina who was racing in the late 40s and into the 50s and counted among his close friends Ralph Earnhardt and Big Bill France. His recollections of events in those days are crystal clear and mesmerize the listener. It's almost like seeing the events happen on video because Jim is so descriptive.
I was very fortunate to have lunch with Jim this past week and in addition to hearing several more of these fascinating stories, Jim had the idea that he can video himself telling those stories and upload those videos here on Racers Reunion. When I e-mailed Jeff with Jim's suggestion, the response was "ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!". While I may have miscounted the exclamation points, the "absolutely" was in all caps.
Racers Reunion is dedicated to preserving the history of stock car racing which has either been presented in ways not always factual, or totally denied as existing before 1980. We have the opportunity to have interviewed many of the builders of the sport and those video interviews are on the site. It is now a pleasure to announce that Jim Streeter will begin doing his own video stories and adding them to the videos here. Uploads should begin next week so be on the lookout for the first uploads. If you're a racing fan, especially a racing fan of the early days, you are going to be in awe.
