Read where Jimmy Griffin, long time modified and sportsman racer at Ace Speedway and Franklin County Speedway passed away this morning. I remember Jimmy driving the #12 KFC sponsored car. I do not have any pics. maybe Kenny Lang may have some. RIP Jimmy.

Thanks Tommy, for posting this about Jimmy Griffin, Jimmy was special to us, we go back to the mid 50's, he worked for the lemons Brothers garage in Draper NC. Now called Eden NC. I think they specialized in building Moonshine cars, ect, ect. A bunch of gifted people.Jimmy was a natural great driver. The U2 and the 007 days along with all the others cars that he drove shows the history that he had in racing. As I have said about the others that have passed, I am blessed to have known these great drivers and greater people.I know the race at the big "H" speedway is about to start, Jimmy tell them all hello for me, especialy my dad Gordon Mangum, he will be starting from the pole. Thanks, Clyde Mangum

I remember Jimmy most running the late model sportsman. When ask for his hometown he would say Draper NC when the inspector that was filling out the entry blank for the race would then ask. Where the ----- is Draper he would say right in the middle of Eden. And the inspector then knew he had been had. Jimmy would just smile and walk away while all the others standing around would razz you pretty hard for falling for his joke. Jimmy was a very good driver and I seen him run tracks all around the southeast. He like many others did not have alot of backing but was good enough to made it big had the right situation came around. God speed Jimmy and rest in peace.
