I'm working my way through blog entries for races won by Richard Petty in the month of October. I'd really enjoy incorporating memories, stories, pics, etc. from Racers Reunion members who attended any of the following races. Please reply here, send me an RR message, or email me at toomuchcountry (at) gmail (dot) com.

Here is the series so far:

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

I can't remember the year but I was shooting Petty's last pit stop at Charlotte the year the left side tires got put on the right and the engine was just a smidgen large. I'm not saying this to belittle any of Richard's wins, I really don't remember what year that was. I didn't work too many races where Petty won, seems like hewon a few I was at before I began shooting.

Was at the Rockingham wins, Martinsville and Charlotte in 1983. Stayed in the CMS press box until late in the night as Bill France, Jr. went back and forth from the NASCAR control booth to the garage where Richard's winning car had been impounded. France finally came to the press box in person to deliver NASCAR's decision that the win would stand and explain what had been found in post race inspection. It was a very long night and very sad one that pretty well ended the Richard / Maurice pairing.
