What's in a name?

Nicknames in sports have been around forever. NASCAR has had its share over the years, names like The King, The Silver Fox, The Golden Boy, The Intimidator, The Ice Man, Awesome Bill, Handsome Harry and Mr. Excitement are a few from the past that quickly come to mind. Nowadays we have Sliced Bread and Mr. 5 Time. There are many more, some that shouldnt be mentioned in public. But for the most part nicknames dont seem to be assigned to many of todays drivers. Is it because all the good ones are gone? Heres my take on the subject.

Nicknames come easily to exceptional athletes and teams. Today the drivers are mostly homogenized sponsor puppets carefully trained to act and conduct interviews like a champ. We see very little personality in the interview snippets we get during the weekly coverage of each race so that makes it kindda hard to identify todays drivers with catchy nickname. We have some that have earned nicknames but typically they are not positive in nature and dont stick very well.

The one driver that stands out is Kyle Rowdy Busch. Love him or hate him, that boy can flat drive. After the events of last weekends truck race I wonder how that nickname search is coming for this tainted driver. What nickname would you assign to Kyle Busch? Keep it clean, if possible.

I already nicked him as "Candy Man". Guess I need to add "he melts in the car, not in your hand". Also nicked Edwards as "Duck Boy". So, BT, nicks are still around. lol. Thanks for the post.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

I started calling Carl 'Dr. Jekyll' for being bipolar so often. Then there is also 'Needmycheck' for Nemechek due to his start-n-parking over the past few years and hiring Kevin Conway for the check (although I still respect Joe for being a racer and running the distance whenever the funds allow for it, just thought 'Needmycheck' fit his situation the past few years). Have to say, 'Candyman' is a really good one and the 'melts in the car' slogan fits the bill beautifully, LOL.

Hard to beat Candy Man. His sponsor and the fact he a Candy A$$ seems to fit. Wonder if it will fit when Mars has had enough of him.
