Jr. probably expressed the opinion of many with this Talladega post-race comment.

Bopper, He was certainly choosing his words carefully wasnt he. He was upset as all could tell so maybe his words will have some effect on those in charge....

Junior went on the say that today's 'excitement' would surely capture a lot of attention, BUT it was not productive for the long-term health of the sport................. I cold not agree more.

What really peeves me is the notion that we fans are demanding this crap.

Granted the cars are safer. However after Eric McClure's wreck here, Carl Edward's car crashing into the fence, the problem with radiators in the May race at Dega and this huge wreck today is the final straw. Enough is enough.

What if Bruton owned a 'plate track? Would the official NASCAR-plate position be so rosy? Remember, NASCAR once threatened to pull the plug on Texas because of banking transitions and water seepage....citing safety concerns (LOL!).

I came over here to start this thread. I'm glad that Junior made these remarks because people will listen to him. Not only is he the most popular and the face of NASCAR, but he has the added baggage that his father was killed at a plate track.I find plate racing boring and the possibility of a win is too random. I don't enjoy massive pile-ups that take out half the field, usually with five to go. I seem to be one of the minority that preferred the tandem racing that they had a year or two ago, but that was still inferior to a regular race.In Indycars, Mike Conway shocked everyone at the season finale by refusing to run that race or any other oval races because they were too dangerous. Can you imagine the reaction in the heaqd offices if Junior refused to run the Daytona 500? Rick Hendrick would probably play along because if nothing else, plate races often require a lot of body repair afterward.I don't care for Junior as a driver. I think he's over-hyped. But I've paid a lot more attention to him in the last year or two because I like who he is off the track. He doesn't flaunt his popularity or sell his image to every company in order to rake in big cash. I know he's got a lot of acreage and a Western town on his property, but that seems less ostentatious than the new Kyle Busch house. Junior has been speaking out on a lot of issues lately, and his arguments sound well thought-out. To me, he sounds less self-centered and boastful than say, Brad Keselowski. He reminds me a bit of Ned or Dale Jarrett.

He made a suggestion....that NASCAR build the cars. If NASCAR had to pay ($6 million +) for the 25 wrecked cars would that make a difference?

Was anyone really surprised to see the Big One? Everyone knew it was coming, the same finish in every Talladega race, there's no surprise ending, it's the same old story. A pretty spectacular wreck no doubt.

Plate racing makes me ashamed of being a NASCAR fan. Atleast the Chase needs to be free of this sadistic joke that we laughably catergorize as racing.

anyone remember ward burton - he wrecked sterling marlin at charlotte in the winston open for blocking - he made the comment you cant block in winston cup racing i dont care who you are - he also made a comment after winning the daytona 500 plate race and all the wrecks - he said it was to damn fast for to damn long - most of the time the big onehappens in the middle of the race and eliminates a bunch of cars - but that didnt happen this time -without the crash that would have been a fantastic finish - and michael waltrip may have won the race - these guys have been doing this for a long time- really lucky no one was injured .

Having pulled in the past for my hometown area driver, Denny Hamlin, I was embarrassed and frustrated to watch him immediately fall to the rear of the field and "points race." I've never cared to watch strokers and he sure was one all day... as was JJ for most of the "show."

I want to see "my" driver(s) race to the front and race to win, not to avoid the big one. The only thing worse than the Talladega race was watching the Carolina Panthers lose on the 1 foot line for the second consecutive week in the final minute of their NFL telecast with the Seahawks.

It was a terrible afternoon to watch Cup racing or the Panthers. What a waste. I guess BZF Just keeps counting all those empty seats that used to be full and wondering why..

Well my Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland A's and lead 2 games to none in the playoffs. As for Denny Hamhock and Jimmie Jaywalk, they are pros at sandbagging, it's their style and one reason Jimmie won 5 straight in my opinion.

By the way.... Jeff Gordon expressed the opinion that the fans should have been lined up to the highway to see the Talladega show (they used to), but here's what the Associated Press had to say about the attendance at Talladega:

NASCAR's estimated crowd of 88,000 was the smallest since figures have been provided, and was down by 20,000 from the previous low of 108,000 in May, and coming at a track that used to pull in more than 300,000 people for its two annual events.

Those bastages got to Junior and he took back everything he said. I'm back to thinking he's an over-hyped lottery winner in the gene pool.

I believe NASCAR said there would be no more secret fines, so that's not how they castrated him. Rick Hendrick has NASCAR in the palm of his hand, so they didn't threaten the boss. They must have told him that they weren't going the throw the debris flag any more to let him get back on the lead lap.

I had strong hopes that he was going to give them the middle finger and refuse to run the Daytona 500. It would have been a powerful statement that would bring the heat down on Brian France.
