Kurt Busch, NASCAR Whipping Boy

Current NASCAR

The possibility that Japan, Germany or the two combined would have conquered the US is immeasurably small. They were trying to prevent us from entering the war but had no intention of affecting US politics. We've done a bang-up job of eliminating freedom in the US all by ourselves since the Forties and "freedom of political correctness" is one of the few that remain. Some of you are doing a fine job of upholding the stereotype of Southern racism.

Aside from all that, I agree with Tim that NASCAR should have at least waited until Busch had been convicted of a crime before suspending him. They compounded that error by not immediately lifting the suspension when he was acquitted. I don't know what happened inside that motorhome, but if Patricia Driscoll's account is true then we need to give our assassins more training in hand-to-hand combat. Ryan Newman or Carl Edwards might be a formidable opponent, but Kurt Busch?

Charlotte Begs Banks to Forgive $21 Million NASCAR Hall of Fame Loan

General

The only motorsports hall of fames I've visited are Talladega and Indianapolis. Coincidentally, both were at the track. I'm close enough to Charlotte but haven't been. My excuse is that I don't want to hassle with, and pay for, downtown parking.

The baseball, football and basketball HOFs are not near any major stadium that I can think of, yet they all do well. I don't think being in Charlotte is the problem, I think it's that NASCAR has made a point of turning away from the longtime fans who would be interested in the history of the sport. A lack of respect for the induction process has hurt them also.

My own opinion is that it would have more prestige if it included all American motorsports. I'd be very interested in a three branch setup with exhibits that rotated between Riverside, Indianapolis and Daytona. Sort of a Smithsonian Institute of Racing.

Bah, Humbug Bruton Smith; NC Supreme Court Delivers Christmas Eve Bag of Coal

Current NASCAR

Who needs a race track when you have the NASCAR Hall of Fame to rake in the cash?I think that Greensboro is the #1 TV market for NASCAR, so Bruton could drop the track somewhere between Charlotte, Raleigh & Martinsville. Burlington seems ripe for some urban renewal. Aside from that, Northern New Jersey, Western Pennsylvania and Washington/Oregon are under-served.I like Charlotte and there are many other tracks that I'd like to see torn down first. But I'm tired of sports franchises extorting state and local governments to build their stadiums. That includes high school & colleges. Burn the place down!

December 4, 1956: Paschal has his day in court

Stock Car Racing History

The pole at Darlington in 1956 was 119 and had been 108 just two years before. That Mercury likely didn't have any more left in it.

December 4, 1956: Paschal has his day in court

Stock Car Racing History

Paschal got robbed. His buddy made the same plea to the same charges and Paschal had to pay 60 percent more in fines. The Judge must have been a Fireball Roberts fan.

So, When Does History Begin?

Administrative

We could have the same rules as the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Any driver over 55 years old can be talked about and there's a special forum to talk about Betty France. Also, everything that happened before 1960 never happened.

So, When Does History Begin?

Administrative

I (sometimes) enjoy current races but the history that I'm interested in preserving and reading about ends in 1991 with the last of the Gen 3 production based cars. Racing continued after that but it was a different sport driven by big money. It stopped being stock car racing and became Cup racing.Since the current cutoff is 2003, I vote that we move it up to 2006, the year before "The Car of Tomorrow". After that, everything belongs in a separate Current NASCAR section. 2006 was also the last year before Toyota, so Tim has that going for him.

Former racecar driver accused of making meth

Stock Car Racing History

Shame he doesn't have the money to hire Rick Hendrick's legal staff. I hear they are very good.

Stock Car Racing History

True, but it's not much different than the moonshine runners.
