Ghost Track in Dodge Commercial

I just caught a new TV commercial that started off showing a run-down racetrack somewhere in the USA and an announcer lamenting over how many places such as this one are now gone, etc, etc. THEN a throaty motor is heard, and a couple of spiffy new trucks start zooming around the track - Dodges !

The question is : WHICH TRACK IS IT ? I didn't notice anything like a speedway name on the front stretch wall, or anything else that would seem to identify the place. If anybody'll know which one it is, it'll be thegood folks right here.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing the commercial again ! (I didn't really say that, did I ?) Hadn't knowingly seen the commercial before, but if you are all going to tell me it's been running for months, I haven't seen it. Maybe that's because I TIVO all the races and zoom through the commercials so I can see 20 minutes of racing for every hour of coverage !

Steve

Steve, I actually saw two different Dodge commercials for the first time last night shot at that track. One with the trucks and one with the Charger and Challenger. And I only watched about 90 minutes of tv last night. I don't know what speedway but you can tell it was once a Winston track and I'm betting somewhere in the Carolinas but that is a guess. I suppose we need to write Dodge or someone on here will surely know. I do love the shots though.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

I know there was a commercial recently filmed at Middle Georgia Raceway. I haven't seen the commercial yet to know if that is it.

Thanks. I had not seen the Durango Commercial. So, that means there are at least three different commercials shot at Brixton.

Copied from the website "TransAm Country":

78TransAm Administrator Oracle Forum Member Posts: 3664 Drove the Trans Am to the filming of a new DODGE commercial. on: June 11, 2011, 07:51:09 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today me and a friend drove my Trans Am up to a cruise-in and on the way back we drove by the old Middle Georgia Speedway near my home. There were alot of tents and 18 wheelers, so we just decided to swing in and see what was going on. We went past a sign that said crew only and quickly we were approached by an officer who wanted to know what he could help us with. I asked him if there was some kind of event and he kinda got low key and told me they were filming a new Dodge Commercial. He told me he can't point to them, but if we look to the right we could see them. We looked around and saw some Durangos and Chargers, They didn't look much different then he ones that are out now. Anyway, The officer complimented my Trans Am and I said Thanks and we went on our way. I just was amazed at how many people were there to film a commercial and It was pretty neat that our old abandoned Racetrack was being used for a major commercial. The Speedway hasn't been raced on since 1984, but it was a NASCAR cup track back in the 60's and 70's, With Richard Petty winning 4 of his 200 races there and a weekly program until the early 80's.

A note form the selfish webmaster side of me....Here is why I love this forum and the activity it breeds...well most of it anyway. This topic was started two days ago about "The Dodge Durango Commercial". Today a member joined and found us after searching for "dodge durango commercial". I just thought that was cool. Just think of all the search terms you guys are spewing into cyber space every day. Now you know another reason you hear me say activity breeds activity.

I see no problem at all posting the entire article with proper credit...for the benefit of those who wouldn't attempt to follow a link. Many would not.

Good story. Good for the race track...good for Byron, and for Tim Thornton.

Hello, all. I am the new member that Jeff mentioned who joined after searching for the Dodge Durango Commercial. Here is a little of my story and why I was searching that...

I grew up in Byron, Georgia, where the Middle Georgia Raceway is located. At one point, my family even lived in a mobile home park located right next to the raceway. We spent a lot of race nights at that track! In fact, when my dad asked me what I wanted to do for my 12th birthday, I told him, "Go to the races!" It was only a few months later that my dad was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. I didn't know it until recently, but that was the same year that the raceway was shut down. So many drivers raced there, I especially remember the Allisons.

I searched for info on the Dodge Durango commercial when my brother, who moved back to Byron last year from Florida sent me a link to the commercial on YouTube. I was confused about the "Brixton" name used in the commercial, so I did an internet search to see if my brother was wrong or if they changed the name for the commercial, which was the case.

This commercial brought back some wonderful memories of my family at that racetrack. My brothers and I would even sometimes ride our bikes around the track when no one was around.

I've looked around the site here, and there are a lot of wonderful stories, photos, and memories. Nice to meet you all!

Several months ago someone from Hollywood call me wanting to know about Ghost Tracks and if Augusta Raceways half mile still existed. I told him our track was long gone and I told him about MGR and Columbia and provided contact info. The proof is now on the boob tube.MGR made the cut. Long live both tracks.

I

is it not possible this stuff was filmed BEFORE al the fencing, etc was removed??...'m really confused here.. I was at the Middle Ga track in March 2011 for a car show and ALL the fencing, guard rails and flagstand were GONE and I was told sold for scrap metal.. now you're telling me that in June Dodge rebuilt the original flagstand & all the fencing & guardrails & replanted all the vegetation/trees that had been removed from the track & infield???.. really??.. an EXACT copy of the old flagstand??

No doubt it IS Middle GA , but I'm just very very confused over the date of filming being listed as June 2011.. less than a month before I started seeing the commercials on TV...
