With the inside of the hood being yellow, this former SABCO and former Hendrick-Rob Moroso car looks to have begun its life as a Hendrick-Geoff Bodine Levi Garrett Monte Carlo. If so, I think the ties between SABCO having the car (temporarily) and HMS building it originally are even stronger. Gary Nelson was the original crew chief for Kyle Petty and SABCO. Assuming this car was first a Levi Garrett / Bodine Chevy, Nelson would have had direct oversight of its build as he was the crew chief for Bodine in that era.

You are probably correct, as teams didn't have the huge inventory of cars like they do now, so recycling was pretty common.
