Yes, from what I've heard Joe's transmission broke and he was several laps down but Bud Moore's crew put a new one in the car and he went back out. He hit the wall in one of those right hand turns.

Turn 6. I've heard he didn't like shoulder belts and this allowed his head to make contact with the wall.
