Why I Didn't Take Grandsons Dirt Racing Tonight

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

Come on "old timer"! Its less than three hours from Columbia to BGS. They have some nice motels in the area that won't rob you and if you are tough enough you could stay for all the races and still be home in time to get a decent nights sleep before going to church. PLUS! You might even get to see me!

I think they are still using those same grain scales at Bowman Gray. How did that picture slip in the mix for Atlanta?

This is THE Saturday, March 29th

Administrative

It was a great trip but the thing I was thrilled about were the faces of the younger folks there. They are the future of our sport in so many ways. I hope we are able to keep them interested in what we have grown up with and hold so close. I know how easy it is to talk about how NASCAR isn't doing this or that to keep us interested. We need to let the next generation know that there is more than enough good to balance out any negatives. It's a great sport and a great family to be a part of.

I remember them well. Think about it every time I pass the one in Mt. Airy.

Roy Trantham

Stock Car Racing History

He was tough in his racing and just as tough in his fight. God probably needed to have some help with Pete Keller.

Roy Trantham

Stock Car Racing History

Back in my younger days I worked for Ray Nichels and Paul Goldsmith at their "Safety Center". They had a contract with Goodyear to purchase and re-sell the Goodyear "obsolescence" at local short tracks. I was fortunate enough to get to get to go to New Ashville Speedway and Hickory Speedway to sell those old tires. Usually they didn't sell good so I got to see some of the best racing ever at those tracks.

I saw Bosco Lowe, Jack Ingram, Roy Tranthem, Ned Setzer, the Houstons, the Killians Clarence Ogle and too many more to name go at it door-to-door and often bumper-to-bumper action that filled the stands. Trantham was one of my favorites then cause he was a Ford man and there wasn't many of that make winning back then. Roy not only won, he litterally thumped" the best of the best for a couple of seasons till Pete Keller and other "officials" made life miserable for that Ford.

Roy Trantham lost his last race Monday evening. He fought cancer just like he raced. Till the very end.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Roy on Friday, March 21st at Noon at the Palm City Presbyterian Church in Palm City, FL. Memorials may be made to Lukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast in memory of Roy and his passion for his pets. Notes of sympathy can be sent to his wife at: Lucia Trantham, P. O. Box 1293, Palm City, FL 34991.
