NASCAR Media Group's Poor Research Regarding Richard Petty / What was the Hall of Fame Staff Doing??

Stock Car Racing History

I cringed when Ned Jarrett was portrayed as giving Wendell Scott " wore out parts" in the recent ESPN movie about the great Black driver. The parts sold to Scott in real life were used ( some barely ) but hardly worn out. Wendell would have vouched for that.

Listen to How It Really Was 50 Years Ago

Stock Car Racing History

Two things of particular interest came to me upon listening. One was the mention of a 35 mile an hour speed limit on pit road. Did they have a pit road speed limit for a short period of time during that era ? Also Bill France stated that two races remained on the 1962 schedule at South Boston and Atlanta , but checking the 1962 records, only one race was run at Atlanta. Was the SoBo event rained out and not rescheduled or did the Cuban missle crisis of that time frame figure in the postponement?

The Bill Elliott Wish List

General

I'll be rootingfor both of them. Bill will certainly have a shot to get in on his own with teammate Joe Nemechek running in the same race. Speaking of the little team that could, it would be great to see both of front row Joe's machines in the 500.

The Bill Elliott Wish List

General

With Awesome Bill running in the second 150 on Thursday, there is a chance that he could be in the 500 field before he ever takes the green flag in that race.

Most likely favorable scenerio would be for both Trevor Bayne and David Sremme to race their way into the 500. Thiswould put Terry Labonte into the field on speed and put Bill into the big race on a past champion's provisional.

Less likely to happen would be for Terry to race his way in to open the door for Bill.

Even so, I think most would agree that Elliott will most likely have to race his way in.

Services Rendered

General

Thought it would be fun for members to discuss jobs and services performed for them by former drivers. For example, Carl Burris once reupholstered a recliner for me back in the 70's and Bobby Fleming painted a car for my daughter just a few years ago. You better believe I talked racing with these guys.

Appreciate Dave Despain

General

Despain is outstanding. He was the first to coin the phrase "800 pound gorilla" in reference to the Cup series at its peak. I first heard Dave as a turn announcer for MRN in the 70's.

Heat Races VS Time Trials

General

Don't get me started about staying until 2 a.m. I just about quit going to our local dirt track because of late running events. I'll try them again this year, but looking at the number of classes running, it will probably be the same old story. I've gone too many times and left before the features even started.

Heat Races VS Time Trials

General

Best race this ole boy ever saw was a mini siock heat at Oak Level dirt track. Downside is when there is a small car count and cars get taken out in the heats , leaving fewer to contest the mains. Overall, heats are better because qualifying is as boring as watching paint dry
