Last Dirt Race

Stock Car Racing History

i went to the combo event at bowman gray stadium in 1971 and it was awesome. this was the controversial 85th win that bobby wasn't credited for because he was driving a pony car. perhaps one day this unfortunate situation will be rectified.

General

1963 spring race at hillsboro. wendell scott.finished last of the 23 cars. bobby isaac and sonny fogleman both left the ballpark between turns 1 and 2 to closely follow wendell to the sidelines if memory serves me correctly.

Forget Carl Edwards at Texas, I Saw a NASCAR Donnie Allison Mustang Win in 1968 -the 1st!

General

there is a site called ultimate racing history that has a partial boxscore of the richmond GT race. of note... buck baker won the pole in a camaro , but suffered a blown engine in the race. jack ryan finished fifth in a porsche 911, and former cup driver jim vandiver finished second in a camaro one lap behind.

and speaking of yunick, bunkie blackburn drove a black and gold smokey creation in some GT races and if memory serves me , won a race in jacksonville, fla.. yunick tried to enter the camaro in some grand national races later in the season, but was refused by NASCAR.

Question of the Day for March 29,2011

General

it's apples and oranges. just a way for NASCAR to add hype. the viewer chooses how they want to feel about it.

Question of the Day for March 23, 2011

General

I became a fan after watching the 1962 Southern 500on ABC's Wide World of Sports. Shortly after listening to the 1963 Daytona 500 on radio, my dad told me he had a surprise for me. When I saw an ad for the Hillsboro NASCAR GN race in the local paper the next day, I knew what the surprise was. 13 days later, we were in the stands for my first race. We alsoattended the Spring race at Martinsville and the Fall race at Hillsboro in 1963 and both Darlington races in 1964 before my dad lost interest because of the many factory boycotts. My only racing trips were to local shows at the old Rockingham dirt track and Bowman Gray Stadium in the mid to late sixties. I finally returned to the major league in 1968 with the Spring race at Maryinsville. I have many fond memories of my racing experiences including seeing Richard Petty win race number 100 at Bowman Gray !

Bowman Gray Stadium

General

With all the money being made on racing at the Stadium, I find it hard to imagine that any owner would want to end such. My question is where would all those racers go if racing there did end ?

National Speed Sport News Puts Out It's Last Issue

General

Chris is my hero andJ have often regretted not taking advantage of a chance to meet him in person. Fact is that the paper is going by the wayside because most of the previous customers dropped their subscriptions same as Southern Motoracing and so many others. Technology hasn't killed many of thethings we loved. It's our choice to favor technology over the tried and tue that we grew up with.

Now you know why Racers Reunion Will survive if you watched sundays parade in Homestead

Current NASCAR

well put. you have made the point that i was trying to make only you did a much better job. the folks who are on here thirty years from now ( when a lot of us current members are gone ) will have to have had some sort of positive influence from the current racing to have good memories and drive them to a site where they can share their memories. i certainly would like to see some things change, but i'm not gonna suggest that anyone give up on NASCAR's premier series.
