Want to know what my very favorite '57 model of all time is? Well, here it is................

Photobucket

What? That's not a '57 model you say. Oh yes it is and just like the Ford, Chevy, Plymouth and all the rest, it came out in the fall of '56, the middle of October to be exact and, as my birthday present, was only three days late.

That's right, my very favorite '57 is my kid brother, ol' Gator himself!

Now Pete, you KNOW that those droop snoot Fords and Mercs were a lot closer to being within the spirit of the rules than those Mopar space ships they had to run against. LOL I really haven't looked to see if it's the big block or not. Doesn't really matter because you ain't gettin' much horsepower out of a plastic engine anyway. LOLLeon, it looks Iike I'll have to pass on Saturday. I've got a benifit yard sale for my son in the morning and I've got to play a gig with a pretty good pick up bluegrass band in the afternoon. Maybe next time if I can work it out, Say hi to everyone for me.

We had our first race of the season yesterday so I didn't get to go to CMS for the AutoFair. But I really didn't mind because I wound up with this little gem that CrazyRay78 brought me.

After I got it unloaded I gave it a good cleaning and checked all the fluids so she'd be ready to cruise today.

It fits me like a tailored suit and is the first Cyclone in my yard since I got rid of my '66 thirty years ago. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for those "messengers of VROOM" and a place in my driveway.

I had to use flill flash to even out the exposure and balance the gleam coming off that briar eatin' grin but it made for a pretty neat shot after all. Anybody up forl a cruise?

Sorry, it's April and I forgot this month's calendar

Sorry, it's April and I forgot this month's calendar.

Have had a lot going on and the month change just slipped past me. I'll try to be a little more on top of things for next month's page.

Here's the link for the full size printable version.

Looks like Hot Rod Deluxe is going to have a special vintage issue this month. I remember that before '66 if you wanted coverage of the stock car races, Hot Rod was pretty much the only game in town as far as magazines went. The archives have a bunch of old stock car stuff, from Darlington to Pike's Peak and a LOT of places in between.

I was very happy to be featured as the main stock car photographer for this issue. Availible by subscription only in very limited areas and by prearrangement only. Your mileage may vary, produced by Smoke Screen LTD Productions only on April 1st.

It is with deep regret and sadness that I must inform you all

I've got that book here somewhere but it wasn't related to the movie at all. I think in was Redline 7100 instead of 7000 but I can't be sure. It may have been W.E. Butterworth but again, I'm not sure. I've got an interview here somewhere with Howard Hawks, who did Redline 7000, stating that he wrote the screenplay using three short stories that would not have been enough material to carry a feature on their own.

Don't know if that was you at the end of the movie but it was sure Precision Engine Service's Monte Carlo at the end! James Sears borrowed Clyde Norwood's and Henry Helms' metal flake (yes, metal flake not metallic, looked like a great big motorcycle helment)) red #3 Bobby Allison built '72 Monte Carlo and brought back a beat all to %%# red and gold Coca Cola #12.All those framin' and bammin' scenes from late it the race were done with Neil Castles' Grand National Plymouth and that dirt track Monte Carlo painted up like Richard Petty and Junior Johnson's Nascar rides. To say the least, Henry and Clyde were less than pleased with Mr. Sears' exploits with the Hollywood fraternity.
