It is with deep regret and sadness that I must inform you all

Since I figured out how to use it to make myself small enough to get in one of my cars me and ol' Tink have been getting along VERY well. LOL

Now you know why I try to get every race movie I can get my hands on. The movies are in COLOR and most photos and all the programs from that era are in glorious black and white. You'd be amazed at what I will sit through to get the specs to build my models. LOLBesides, I still like my model, based on the Ned Arp "tryout" version better than Banjo's real one with the skinny little numbers. Photobucket

Echoes of Thunder February Calendar Page

General

As I sit here and watch the snow and ice pellets fall, it's good to be able to share with friends without having to get out on the road. Here's the new calendar page as promised but I think I may replace some pics later on in subsequent months. The pics I shot for the Augusta project came out pretty good so I may use a few of them later in the year to replace the ones in the announcement pic. I had to leave this one unchanged because I promised a friend to feature "his" Ford this month. Photobucket Hope everyone enjoys the calendar. Here's the link to the full size printable file. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v69/mitchum/janpost/FEB.jpg

The Perfect Storm.........Stock Car Style

General

Thanks ya'll I'm really enjoying my stay here. Uh Tim, Tiny Lund, you say? I think I may have heard of him. You wouldn't be talkin' about ol' DeWayne, would you? Wanda would never speak to me again if I didn't give ol' Big Poppa equal time. Here's another one of them there "what????" shots. A little styrofoam, some cardboard, plastic and a dash of magic and you've got "speed at dusk on dirt". Another episode of " (Thursday) Friday (Saturday) Night Lights". Photobucket

The Perfect Storm.........Stock Car Style

First you take a totally fearless mountain man then add driving skills far above most mortal men then put that combination behind the wheel of Chevy's new 427 "Mystery Engine", bring to a boil and add well packed Carolina red clay. Here's the way we do it in 1/25 scale at Echoes of Thunder. You know, I think I've almost got this PhotoShop thing figured out. Photobucket

Just got started on a new project for Augusta Raceway.

General

Just got tapped to do some photos to use on a new DVD project being done on the Augusta International Raceway. They needed some pics from the dirt short track, paved 1/2 mile oval and the road course from '63 and they didn't have the ones they needed for certain drivers so I'm doing them in scale, building the unique wooden wall/steel guard rail combination for the oval shots. I used the original shot of the grandstands and dirt bank along with my new track section. What do you think? Photobucket

Larry Frank, 1962 Southern 500 winner, has passed.

And Morris Metcalfe catching the scoring error that almost cost Larry the win and getting a promotion because of it.

I wrote a closing to an article I did in Racing Collectibles Price Guide back in the early ninties that ended, similarly to Jimmy Durante's TV show closing "Good Night Mrs. Calabash, where ever you are, with the line, "and goodnight Larry Frank, wherever you are."It took a quirk of fate five or six years for his search for me to let me know just where he was.I was working with Racing Collectibles Club of America on their initial diecast release, a '63 Ford Sportsroof Grand Nartional Racecar when mine and Larry's paths finally crossed at a show in Charlotte NC. His '63 Daytona racer was one of the versions I was working on. He and his lovely wife were signing autographs in a big tent with several others for a vintage race car show that B.D. McClure and Alex Beam was putting on at McClure's memoriabilia shop just across from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He told me that he had been looking for me ever since the article ran and we had a great time during the weeklong event. He gave me several autographed photos and we bench raced and swapped stories like old friends. I never got to show him the model of his '62 because we lost touch when I left RCCA and I'll always regret I didn't get the location of his body shop in time to send him a photo disc with the models. The real racers are few and getting fewer. We should make sure, if and when we have the chance, to let them know just how much they mean to us. And good night, Larry Frank, wherever you are, my good and cherished friend. Photobucket
