Looking for information on my Dad
Stock Car Racing History
I remember him . He came down to Raleigh a couple of times.
I remember him . He came down to Raleigh a couple of times.
I attended modified Race on Saturday.
It was Great!
I was at the Columbia Touchdown Club Meeting and Jim Seay came up to me and told me about a Website thatI mighthave interest.
He knew that I had Raced Back in the early 50s.
Tuesday he and I sat next to each other at the TD Club meeting and talked Stock Car Racing most of the time.
Because of my age (85) as I got up from the table and shook his hand and said " I hope I'll be around to see you next year".
Last night on the TV they announced he had passed away.
Jim Seay RIP!
What did he do for a living before he started racing stock racing?
He was a Hair Dresser!
Big Bill played this up in his promotions.
The last time I saw him, was on TV in the Champ series, he was going over the fence at Fort Wayne Ind.
Back in the early 50s I was the first one to roll over the guard rail after two drivers were killed the week before at Raleigh Speedway. It was in the first heat race. The fans were very quite until I crawled out of the car, then they cheered.
All I can say is "Those were the days".
Bill France (Big Bill) gave me $50.00 to let Bill Holland drive my car in a "Match Race" with Dick Passwater at Raleigh . Bill's only comment to me after the race " That is the worse handling car I've eve drove"
Leon was the starter (Flagman) at Bowman Gray for years.
I drove Sportsman from 50 to 56 for many car owners.
One of my favorite Car owners was Albert Ray of Fayetteville NC.
Albert and his younger brother Tommy and I had some great times together.
I just got off the phone with Thomas Ray Jr.
I was able to find out their history after my last contact with them in 62.
Thank You RacersReunion you have made my day!
