Mark Martin to drive for MWR in 2012

General

Mark Martin is expected to drive a part-time 2012 Sprint Cup schedule for Michael Waltrip Racing in the #00 Toyota currently driven by David Reutimann, multiple sources close to the situation confirmed Tuesday. Sources said team owner Michael Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 winner, likely will drive all or a portion of the four restrictor-plate races at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. MWR's lineup for 2012 will be Martin, recently signed Clint Bowyer from Richard Childress Racing, and Martin Truex Jr. Sources said an announcement could come Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, where MWR has a 10:30 a.m. local time news conference scheduled. MWR officials declined to comment. Reutimann, attending the SEMA Auto Show for Toyota, would neither confirm nor deny the information. "Talk to Michael," Reutimann told ESPN.com, referring to his owner.

Looks like Mark Martin is headed to Michael Qaltrip racing next year to drive the #00. Michael to drive the restrictor plates tracks and Mark to drive most if not all the rest. Where is David going???

thanks for posting. I'm just a few miles from Spartanburg and grew up hearing the track was planned for Spartanburg but I've heard of several different locations. Great information. Thanks!!!

JUST WONDERING

The Legend has done it again. Bravo my friend, you have put into words and said just what needed to be said. I applaud you and encourage you to please keep stoking the fire and put words to what so many are feeling. Great job.

I havent been a fan nearly as long as so many here at Racers Reunion, but in my 34 years as a fan I havent noticed this issue being as blatant as in recent history. I remember well many of the efforts by drivers to do whatever was needed to allow for the best finish possible, but not the conspiring among teams or manufactures to affect the outcome of the race and a championship. I may be somewhat naive about the inner workings of multicar teams, but I am aware that manufactures have pushed teams to try to win the manufactures championship and Im fine with that. That is their job to represent their brand and repay them for the assistance they give to their teams. But to me, this issue has taken on a different, more sinister feel.

You said it best when you talked about the blatant cover up and the lying going on by those that claim they had nothing to do with it. It is obvious that there were team orders given in the days leading up to the race, the comments and articles referenced by many here attest to this. They cant be denied and the continuing efforts by FoMoCo and Jack Roush to do so only make my blood boil. If the Ford representatives and Roush are unable to stand up the criticism and heat from this situation and just say We did what we felt we needed to do, that is enough to let everyone know that it was wrong and they were aware it was wrong.

This is more than a driver doing something that was in HIS best interest. Dale Earnhardt throwing roll bar padding out, or Dale Jr or Buddy Baker purposely spinning to bring out a caution are things weve all witnessed. These examples were deceptive and were done to affect the outcome of the race by and for a single driver. They were viewed as wrong by NASCAR and the fans. Team orders, in my view, are much worst and this and is a path I dont want to see this sport go down. The perception of the sport will be forever changed if NASCAR doesnt step in and take steps to eliminate this ugly spectacle.

2 car push racing

The pack racing was much worst than the tandem racing to me.I was at Talladega in April and it's hard to question the results when you have 8 cars fighting for the win and they all finish in less than a half second of each other. 4 rows of two was exciting.

Well if lowering the banking is not the option then the only thing to do is reduce the rear spoiler. If it is reduced enough they will be slow enough through the corners that they may not be able to reach the 200 MPH limit before the next turn. Lets be serious, the track and the speed reached at said trackare the problems. If the track don't change the then cars must change. Put a 2 inch spoilor on it and let them go. We will be able to see talent and balls once again in NASCAR instead of clever engineering. I still like dropping the banking better myself. The racing would be much better and the drivers would have to lift.

Here's my opinion and before you come baring torches and pitchforks, think about it. It's simple but expensive, lower the banking so the drivers have to lift. Lower it a little and ruduce the size of the rear spoiler a lot. Lower the banking a lot and lower the rear spoiler a little. Make the drivers lift. They lift at every other track, make them do it at Daytona and Talladega as well. Let the drivers skill determine how deep to run into the corner. Told ya, it's simple.
