Discontinuance of March Atlanta race

Current NASCAR

I hate this!! Now I can only go to one race a year now!! And plus, I dont see why they dont take one or both Fontana races away. At the February race, they only had something like 43,000 people. Thats bad.

If you banned the drivers motohome from the infield would this help racing/??

Current NASCAR

I dont know Johnny. Even if they stayed at the track suite's or at a hotel, the good friends would still come over. But the motorhome is essential. I may be just saying that because We've had one since I was born and it has really come in handy. That way, after practice and the Nationwide quals come on for example, you're not gonna drive15-30 to get to your hotel, watch tv or something, then come back in a hour or so, and your not gonna stay around the hot track with nothing to do if it's an impound race. Yes I do agree Nascar needs more rivalry and bumping, etc. But I'm just saying that they need a motorhome.Anyway thats my point of view.-Cody

Some Cool Old Videos

General

This one is very interesting and very awesome!

No sound, but a rare COLOR video of the 1952 Southern 500 (The one Fonty Flock won while wearingBermudashorts. After winning, he drive back to the start/finish line, sat on top of his car and led the crowd in singing "Dixie") Wow, only in America, or should I say the South? lol

Oh man, this gives me chills just watching this video. The 1952 Daytona Modified Race. It's in such good quality, that it's seems it was filmed yesterday.

1957 Grand National Event at Daytona. Its amazing how close spectators were. Just blocked by thin rope 6 feet from the cars!

A short clip of the 56' Daytona Beach run,

Old Daytona footage, it says drag racing...but its grand national

Enjoy,
-Cody

My visit with the Legend

General

Hey Thanks Dennis, how long ago was that? Dennis Andrews said:
Tim, I stopped by the museum in Dawsonville one day and was very impressed. I was there by myself but found it to be true to its name. It was about Georgia racers, not just nationally known drivers. The North Carolina Motorsports Hall of Fame could learn a thing or two from them.

My visit with the Legend

General

You're very welcome and Thanks again for coming down! Tim Leeming said:
Yes, Ed, The Legend had an awesome day! Cody is quite the host and I can now speak from experience that his knowledge is in his head, not in a book somewhere. As Cody said, we spent about 3 and 1/2 hours in the museum and it was an incredible experience to hear Georgia Racing History from someone who loves it and lives it. It is worth anyone's time to go to the museum but IF you're fortunate enough to get Cody to walk you through it, your experienc will be all the more impressive. I have to say the Dawsonville Pool Room is so full of the magic of the area that you can't quite put a finger on why you feel so good just being in there. The cheeseburger was great too.
It was impressive to see the Elliott race shop even though we couldn't get past the front desk. Just a tour through history thinking of Bill in that number 9 burning up the tracks.
Cody Dinsmore is the real thing. I enjoyed every second there and it wasn't until I was dropping Cody off at his house that I realized I hadn't even looked at my watch all afternoon. Time was not important. Trying to absorb all Cody was presenting was the important thing.
Thanks Cody! For everything, including my gift bag.

My visit with the Legend

General

Today, I got a chance to meet the Legend Tim Leeming! I took him through a long tour the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (about 3 1/2 hours!) Then we went for lunch at the famous Dawsonville Pool Room where Legend got to meet Gordon Pirkle. Then, since I figured he hadn't got enough racing fever....I took him out to the Elliott Race Shop, Ernie was there, but walked away and the lady at the front desk said we couldnt go in...... :(. Oh Well, i still had lots of fun and I'm sure Legend did too!

Some of ya'll other members need to come down and I'll give you the "Dawsonville Treatment" lol

I was worried for a moment when Elliott hit that wall head on

Current NASCAR

Yup, when it showed Kurt walking from his car UNDER his own power, it seems like 50 safety guys are around him and two tow truck and ambulances. It shows an overview to Sadler's car and nobodys there!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT NASCAR LEARNED AT POCONO TODAY

General

I'm assuming they learned little? Anyway...that should ring a bell for nascar, Kasey Kahne's wreck in June and two bad wrecks today. But that's just this year. Remember back in 2002 when Steve Park had a bad wreck here. In 87 with Davey Allison, When Richard Petty broke a leg here and when Earnhardt broke a rib. or vise versa. Anyway, They need to make some MAJOR changes to the track, but hey, that's nascar for ya........

Hamlin & Newman Correct / Fines Suck

Current NASCAR

They used to do that for Jimmie Johnson. When he was about to go a lap down....oh...a caution came out, Jimmy gets his lap back. I honestly believe that he does good at the beginng of the year, wins a few in the middle to look good and lets it all out during the chase. For example the last two Brickyard 400's (not including the one last week) Jimmie has won and Mark Martin ran second. In 2008, he was with what used to be DEI, in 2009, he was with Hendrick, I also believe "someone" told him to let Jimmie win but look like your racing.....in other words, Nascar fixes alot of things for their favorite and mos successful driver.......-Cody Tim Leeming said:
Problem with that scenario, Cody, is Brian would have to bring someone in to show him how to work the dvd player to watch the video. After watching it, he would find fault with all we had to say and go about justifying his misguided judgments. I know that the past three weeks, moreso than anything else NASCAR has done, have driven me to the point of almost saying "to hell with it". If I can ever justify to myself that the heritage I so strongly believe in is no longer important whatsoever to the institution of NASCAR, then I'm finished. But as long as there is a Richard Petty, a Bobby Allison, a Rex White, a Ned Jarrett, I have to believe what they did meant something. I guess my heart can't give it up easily.
I had a discussion today about the Fred Lorenzen caution flags when NASCAR was so hot on making a star out of the golden boy who had no "redneck" accent, that when Freddie needed a pit stop, debris magically appeared on the track. Back then, we sort of overlooked it because we were struggling to be recognized as a major sport. Funny how that makes the old admonition of "be careful what you wish for" mean so much more.
