Pray for Larry Pearson

General

I didn't see that, Angie. Was it the Legends race? I watched his dad race many, many times..........will say a prayer for him. Ernie Sutton

Low attendance at California... again.

General

The Southern 500 should be put back at Darlington........and should always stay there. It has a longer tradition than any other super speedway race on the schedule & NASCAR should preserve that..........it seems like nothing is sacred anymore. Rick Yarborough said:

Low attendance at California... again.

I absolutely agree............but considering some of the decisions made by NASCAR in recent years, it seems that they don't listen much to the long-time, loyal, core group of fans who made the sport what it is. Sometimes it seems that they consciously strive to go in the opposite direction from this same core group of fans. In my opinion, the grassroots & strongest supporters of stock car racing are found in the southeast quadrant of the country............not to offend the northeast & mid-western supporters of stock car racing, but I do agree that California is not the market that NASCAR envisioned and that one of those race dates should be re-assigned to an area where they have traditionally received the strongest support. I think they could get AT LEAST 56,000 at Rockingham or Darlington, and possibly N. Wilkesboro with a few added seats. Looking at this as a long time fan, I would love to see the return to any of these tracks. I would go, if for no other reason than to be able to say " I told you so ." NASCAR should understand by now SoCal is not the promised land they have hoped for. The true promised land is where the fans are, right here in the South East. We've carried this sport like no other region in the country.

green white checkered rule

Current NASCAR

I like that..........not counting caution laps during the last 10 & racing to the checker on the last lap..........I have to agree that would put a lot more excitement into races and particularly the end of races. I would like to see NASCAR do that. Pete Banchoff said:
Even with the green-white-checkers the races still end once the white flag comes out because of a spin. I'm not sure a second chance would help since cautions bred cautions. I agree with Jeff that we all want to see races end with a good checkered flag finish. How 'bout not counting the yellow flag laps with 10 to go and letting them race to the checkers if a caution comes out on the white flag lap?? It would be exciting!

green white checkered rule

Current NASCAR

Saw Jeff's reply......ditto on sleeping through a few of them in recent years. I have not heard about possible rule change, but I am for requiring leader to take white flag under green w/unlimited attempts. I didn't like the way the Shootout ended last weekend..........think that should have been a GWC. I also don't think they should count caution laps in special races like the Shootout..........I guess that would really only apply during 2 races during the year......the Shootout & the All-Star Race.

I don't know.........I'm not a complainer, either............but I would rather be a member of a club honoring a person that I am somewhat familiar with..........or at least know something of their history. I'm all for preserving the information and history of this sport, but I was starting to wonder if there was a contest, also.

Chargin' Charlies 429 C.I. Dodge Daytona

Stock Car Racing History

I'm not sure about the answer to this, but I do know that the 426 was the "hemi"..........one "bad" engine. I suspect that the 429 was the 'wedge" engine, which I recall reading somewhere was a powerful powerplant in its own right. If that's what Glotzbach was running, it was obviously pretty stout as he made some pretty good showings with it.

Union 76 Racing Gasoline

General

I tried to add this to my last entry but wasn't successful..........one little correction.....I believe that rear end was called a limited-slip differential.....I think positraction wa a GM term. The movie that prompted me to buy that car was Bullitt..........I liked McQueen's Mustang, but I needed something wih a little more room.....and I sure did like that Charger. I believe it was a '68 or '69, but except for cosmetically, there wasn't much difference in those 3 years. I did add Hooker headers, but Dodge had already made it a good-performimg car....so not sure that added much performance, either.

Union 76 Racing Gasoline

By the way, Tim, I'm sure there's not much of anything I can tell you about that '70 Charger R/T what with your Mopar experience..........but I did love driving that car........had the 150 mph speedometer, 440 w/1 4-bbl. (rated at 375 hp), positraction rear end, automatic trans. I always wished I had gotten the six-pack, but it would still get you down the road pretty good. Top end on that car got a little scary as it would get to feeling pretty light..........if someone wanted to run at top speed, it would have been better to lower the front end a little. Tim Leeming said:
How did that racing fuel perform in that Charger? Yes, sir, I wish I had my old cars back too, especially after watching some of that Barrett-Jackson auction this weekend. My '66 Plymouth Satellite, my '69 Road Runner, my '70 Road Runner, my '71 Satellite, '72, Fury, '74, '75 and '76 Chargers, my 1978 Dodge Magnum with the t-tops. Notice a MOPAR trend there???? lol
Thanks for sharing that story. I'm looking forward to hearing some more.
