Raymond Parks Personal 1941 Racing films Revealed By NASCAR HOF

Stock Car Racing History

This article has some incredible teaser clips from Raymond Parks personal color home movies of racing in 1941, showing tracks like Salisbury NC, Daytona, High Point NC, Spartanburg SC, and Fort Wayne IN. Let's just hope NASCAR HOF isn't stingy and releases these films in their entirety for all fans to see. I won't hold my breath, but I'm glad to know they exist.

Here are the three clips uploaded to Youtube -

Did Buddy Shuman Really Have A Racing Brother?

Stock Car Racing History

Thanks, Chase. The link is good evidence there was no "Bobby" Shuman.

I think whoever was labeling the photo just made a mistake (well, two). He does look like Buddy. Plus the added Buddy/Bobby misprint.

I would still love to know the real identity of the #26 driver, so I'll leave this post up for a while to see if another can recognize him. After that, I'll delete it.

Did Buddy Shuman Really Have A Racing Brother?

Stock Car Racing History

I've read just about everything out there about Buddy Shuman. I've never seen a word about him having a brother that looked just like him and also raced. Just recently a friend of the Bill Blair family showed some of their photos of the Tri-City Speedway from the late '40s, one photo was of Buddy with his car, another was a man with his car labeled "Bobby Shuman". Did Buddy have a racing brother Bobby? They do look like brothers... almost twins. Or was this just a mistake, or another unrelated guy named Shuman?

The forgotten Norfolk Speedway

Stock Car Racing History

I would still like to hear from someone who knows for sure if it is or isn't Norfolk Speedway. Being that they had races in 1956 & '57 but this topographic map says it's already abandon in 1958 makes me have doubts. Topographic maps usually lag behind a few years in details that specific as to whether a racetrack is abandoned. I don't think we can say for sure if it's the track at this point.

The forgotten Norfolk Speedway

Stock Car Racing History

Hi Aldo,

I looked around on EarthExplorer and found a Feb. 10th, 1955 aerial showing a track, actually two tracks at the southeast corner of North Military Hwy and Lowery Rd. where today there's a Walmart. One track looks to be a half mile dirt track, and to it's right looks like a paved quarter-mile track. Could this be Norfolk Speedway?
