WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS IDEA?

Administrative

Thanks, everyone! Chase, thanks for the support????? I'm not talented enough to pull pictures to put with my stories but I will do what I can. At least you didn't end with "boogity, boogity, boogity".

Not sure how I will title the series but I'm already working on one for April 5th. Will be from the 1953 season. Just think, 60 years ago!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS IDEA?

Administrative

Just curious.

Being that it is a very windy and rainy dayhere in Legend Land, I'm housebound and reading. One of my always faithful resources for reading pleasure is going back into the volumes written by Greg Fielden, "Forty Years of Stock Car Racings" and "Rumbling Ragtops". Somehow I missed getting my hands on "High Speed at Low Tide". As I was reading today, I noticed that almost every date, every day of the year from mid March through late October, could correspond with a race somewhere. In addition to that, I have a couple years worth of old issues of Southern Motorsports Journal. I was wondering if there is any interest in my trying to take an event for each date and writing a short Forum Post about that particular Day in History? Have to give Chase credit for his "Day in Petty History" which I thoroughly enjoy.

Just giving it some thought. Not sure I could do it, but may be interesting. Comments, anyone?

34 Years Ago at Martinsville, CHEVY Took The King to 1st Short Track Victory in 4 Years!

Stock Car Racing History

My, how times flies. Doesn't seem possible that it was that long ago. Thanks for posting Dave, and thanks for the follow-up Chase. I just heard from a friend in Martinsville this afternoon, that it is snowing there today. Not that the weather report has anything to do with this post, but I just find this global warming scary!!!!

There may be a few on here that can remember this

Stock Car Racing History

Way to go Dave!!! Good questions too, Johnny.

I did wheel a Plymouth in '69,'70 and '71. 1972 was a Chevy for a few races and 1973 was a Ford. They didn't have those Jap Traps back in those days so I missed that manufacturer.

Denny's Response to the Crash

Stock Car Racing History

I watched this interview yesterday, I think, and was not surprised by the differences in opinions. Dave, I would absolutely agree that a good track publicist could work this up to a frenzy. Is it possible that Denny's return will be at the "Track too Tough to Tame"? I'm sure NASCAR is eating this up with that kind of publicity.

I do think Denny is right about the SAFER Barrier situation. It would appear that ll tracks should have inside and outside walls covered all the way around. Jeff Gordon caught the one at Vegas (maybe Phoenix) a couple years back and was hurt. Seems to me that not to install SAFER Barriers inside and out does not have the best interest of the participants at heart. Sort of like something "detrimental to the sport". Am I allowed to say that? Guess I'll have to wait on Jeff to school me on such issues.

Best Lunch ever!

Jerry, that is, indeed, a beautiful story. It would be an honor for me to meet any of those gentlemen you talked with. I already know what a fine Patriot you are. Guess we Navy guys stick together pretty well!

A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS THIS MORNING

Administrative

Last week it was time to renew my cell phone contract for another two years and as a part of that renewal, I was allowed an upgrade to a new phone for 99 cents. (unfortunately for Daytona, it was not "fitty cent"). The guy who always helps me at the cell phone store is just a phenominal young man and knowing I'm into NASCAR, he installed a NASCAR whatever it is (you know I'm technically challenged) on my phone. So now I can actually pick my driver and watch the race from the in-car camera although I don't think I'll go that far with it. But last night, after the show "Racing Through History", I was playing with the NASCAR "app" and read an interesting commentary on NASCAR's review of "blocking" in the sport. It was almost funny reading the comments like Ryan Newman's statement that blocking was "chicken driving" and Dale, Jr. opining that it is totally acceptable in some circumstances. There was much discussion about Tony Stewart and his block at Talladega last year which took out 24 or so cars. I guess, like everything else in life, it depends on which side of the fence you're on as to whether or not a certain thing is right or wrong. I suppose, in the sport of NASCAR, if YOUR favorite does it, then it's right. If someone else does it TO your favorite, then it's wrong.

The second thing I found incredible was that the new NASCAR.com site still contains the advisory that fan comments currently cannot be accepted but that they are "working on" correcting that problem. It concerns me that the technical heads on the media center in Charlotte cannot determine what is required to allow fan comments to the site. I can understand me not be capable of doing so,but you would think NASCAR would have competent folks handling the matter. When the site first came on line like three months ago, it was easy for fans to comment and I did so more than once, mostly about my excitement over the Gen-6 cars and the elimination of the top 35 rule. However, most of the comments, and I mean literally hundreds of comments were from fans very dissatisfied with the new site. It would, therefore, appear the only technical issue involved here is NASCAR refuses to accept criticism. Admittedly, many of the comments were from the usual negative folks who never find anything to their liking, but many contained very constructive remarks. I do hope NASCAR works out the "bugs" in their system so they can continue to hear from fans direct.

Racing Through History tonight

Administrative

I can only say this: You need to be listening at 7:00 p.m. tonight for Racing Through History right here on RacersReunion to see what's going on tonight. Always a good time.

I heard, on the news last night, that 15 minutes of good laughter a day helps your heart health. At least we know Tuesday evenings are really good for your heart in that case.

You need to check in tonight to see what I'm cooking up this week. You know I am never predictable except when it comes to D.W. comments.

See you tonight,

Tim
