How Dare You Junior????? Not calling Matt to apologize.

Current NASCAR

I read an article this morning on Yahoo Sports in which Matt Kenseth was interviewed about the wreck in Sonoma. He made the statement that Junior had not called him to apologize for the incident. Excuse me Mr. Dollar General, but I saw that accident and it sure looked to me like an unavoidable racing incident. You have caused more than your share of such incidents and I don't recall one driver mentioned whether or not you bothered to call. You and your fake smile always interview nicely after such incidents caused by you and it is always a "sincere apology" for what you did. Junior immediately jumped on his in car radio and apologized to you, the team and the world accepting responsibility.

Somehow I just can't imagine Joe Weatherly telling an interviewer that Curtis Turner didn't call to apologize for putting him through the wall. Or Lee Petty calling Buck Baker to apologize for such an indiscretion. But then I guess it was lack of cell phones back in the day. Or, you know what? If you can imagine this. Drivers actually talked to each other back then, stayed in the same motels, ate in the same diners.

Matt, I hope you get that call this week before you check in for Kentucky. Would hate to think your little heart would be broken not to receive an apology.

WANT TO READ ABOUT A 20 MILLION DOLLAR A YEAR DEAL IN NASCAR?

Current NASCAR

Johnny, to answer your question to me, most of my sponsors paid a flat fee before the season began. When we picked up Payne HVAC in the third year, they actually had a contract. As I remember the terms, I got a large chunk before the season started and then a graduated check AFTER 10 races depending on performance and then another graduated check AFTER the next 10 races. That was a big time deal for me and I sure in that series back in those days, but I did have business savvy to know that it was a good deal for me. The fourth and fifth year of my "career", I was driving for teams and being paid.

As for sponsors bailing out, it's like Jeff said last night on the show. NASCAR put all their eggs in the TV Contracts basket and TV ratings are falling faster than Danica through the field so sponsor know there are fewer and fewer folks in the stands and fewer and fewer folks watching it on television so they are cutting their losses. Let's not forget Nationwide ends its sponsorship of the series at the end of this year so what's that going to do to that series? Perhaps we will be returning to the early days after all when the Rousch, Gibbs, Hendrick folks can't make a buck with the big dollar sponsorships.

Dave Fulton update

Administrative

Hi folks. During last night's Goat Rodeo and several e-mails afterwards, it appears there are a number of folks concerned by Dave Fulton's absence from the site for the past two weeks. As most of you know, Dave had major surgery on Friday, June 6th, and his daughters have been keeping me up dated on his recovery process. Daughter Stacey e-mailed me after the show to say Dave came home this past Monday, the 16th and is recovering nicely although it is expected to be a longer recovery period that originally expected. Stacey assures me Dave is doing well.

Keep Dave and the family in your prayers. He is one awesome Dude!!!

Thanks,

Tim

recent Petty biographies?

Stock Car Racing History

If there is a recent biography out, I don't know about it. I truly think Adam Petty would have been the one to bring Petty Enterprises back to the top. He was Richard made over. Such a loss. I'll let you know if I find a new book.

Father's Day...

General

Let me add my best wishes to all Fathers, Dads, etc. out there. I'm a stepdad but those kids could not be more my own in any way. And the grandkids are truly my heart. When the oldest one named me "Pop" all those years ago, I knew even "Winston Cup Champ" could not top that title!

DONT LET TIM LEEMING FOOL ANY OF YOU

Vintage Oval and Road Course Racing

More appropriately, don't let Johnny Mallonee fool any of you. Tim Leeming has retired from racing. Tim Leeming is the iconic Legend for the best stock car racing history site on the world wide web. There is nothing more needs to be said.
