Countdown to Daytona

Current NASCAR

Old time race car drivers used to have a knack for posing for pictures at a jaunty angle. Weatherly and Pagan are providing excellent examples of this in their start line photo, although neither can compare with the all time best Bob (King of the Jaunty Anglers) Welborn. Seifert and Moore obviously prefer crouching, and they're doing a nice job, but in my opinion the lateBobby Isaac will always be the best of the crouchers.

I'm really shocked that Ed Rowell in that '51 Henry J didn't bring it home out front.

Why Did Jeff Gordon Give the Race Away?

Current NASCAR

Jeff Gordon gave away 2 of the last 3 races. If he had won both of them, he would be this years champion by any system Nascar could dream up, and would have had one of the best seasons anybody has had in a long time, and also one of his personal best ones, too. Why he did it, I don't know.

Catamount Stadium - August 21, 1969

Looks like mechanic Dewey Livengood turned driver for 1 lap before the "steering" went out. Collected $200 though, while teammate Ken Rush had to run 295 laps to collect his $640!

Smokey Yunick said in his book that Herb Thomas was such a natural driver that he could drive the car with one hand, and pick his nose with the other, and still run out front.

Every time I see a picture of the Pete Hamilton Camaro, and the other GT cars too, it makes me long for race cars made out of real cars.

Yep, and in 1971 Dick Brooks won a Nascar GT race at Hickory, also driving a Toy Bolton Camaro, which I believe was # 95 by this time. I also believe (but not sure) that when Charlie Blanton won the ARCA race at Daytona in 1973, he was again driving a Toy Bolton Camaro.
