Richard Petty article from 1969 about switch to Ford

Stock Car Racing History

My dad never forgave Richard for the switch to Ford, even when he came back to Plymouth in 1970.

Fourth Annual Legends Helping Legends

General

I'm going to both Bristol and Martinsville the next couple of weeks. I can't imaging enjoying those trips more than I enjoyed the Legends events. It's always great talking and spending time with people I remember racing 30-40 years ago. They're what made NASCAR, and I'm glad to let them know there are lots of folks who still appreciate them.

New Blog and Book

General

Dan Pierce, a history professor buddy of mine has a new blog. With admitted prejudice in his favor, I think it's pretty good. His first entry concerns the new Madhouse show and can be accessed at www.realnascar.com .Also, he's got new book titled "Real NASCAR: White Lightning, Red Clay, and Big Bill France" that's about to be released. I've read many NASCAR histories, and this one is different from others. Read about it at http://uncpress.unc.edu/browse/book_detail?title_id=1687 . Be sure to read what guys like Humpy Wheeler say about it. It's also available for order (cheaper) at amazon.com.My personal slant is that Dan and I have been friends for 35+ years. For about 20 of those years, he made fun of my affinity for NASCAR. Then in 1994, I had an extra ticket for the Bristol night race. He was hooked.

WHY IS BOBBY ISAAC FORGOTTEN IN HICKORY...........?

General

I agree entirely. I grew up in Hickory and Bobby was, and still is, my all-time favorite.
