I was sitting in the Moss-Thornton Grandstand just a couple of sections down from where Bobby got into the fence. It was my 1st race to see at Dega. We didn't have the best angle on how it started, but we had a clear view of when all came to rest. It was breathtaking to see that gaping hole in the fence. And the sound of tires exploding as they ran through the debris was like a series of cannon fire. Coincidentally, Bobby was on the program for that day's race. Talk about weird karma.

I watched this one on ESPN. During the red flag some of the fans became well let's say agitated .....If I am not mistaken NASCAR put smaller carbuerators on the cars for the last two big tracks for 1987 but were not satsfied with the results hence the plate that we all love soo much. This race in particular was breathtaking and scary at the same time. It was not really a surprise to me. They were running 205 mph laps at the beginning of the race and Davey Allison was running faster yet at the end of it.The CUP cars of that time were capable of running 240 mph as Tim Richmond blew away AL Holberts Porsche on a test track run expose featured in either Motor Trend or Car & Driver magazine. Any one remember that ?
