RacersReunion Racing History Tour
We will be making our first "tour" appearance in Rocky Mount, VA, next week at the Hometown Rentals store on Tanyard Road. This is a 2-day event (Oct 14-15) with show cars and driver apparances from 11:00 - 2:00 each day. We are working with RacersReunion supporter QuicShine99 and other potential sponsors to make this a reality for all of 2009. The plan is to organize a 35-stop tour bringing out veteran racers and vintage race cars from all the places we tour to meet fans and sign autographs. Some of the stops will be coordinated with the cup schedule. Our goal, as always, is to bring recognition to those who are the foundation of the sport. At every event we attend I hear a veteran driver make the comment that they are surprised, but glad there are still fans who want to meet and get to know them. The sad thing is there are many drivers who don't come out to the events because they think we don't remember...or care about them. We need everyone's help in getting these drivers out to events and on this site to get the recognition they deserve...we want to capture racing history from their perspective while they are with us. Let's face it, each year we lose some of those who made contributions to the sport we love.We have gotten great response to our idea for this tour. Memory Lane Museum has very generously agreed to allow us to use some of the cars from their museum for show cars on the tour and have asked us to hold 2 events at their location in Mooresville, NC, next year. We will coordinate these tour stops with the Charlotte cup race schedule. As we finalize the schedule next year we will keep it posted on the events calender. Please help us get the drivers out to these events. We need a lot of "financial" support to make this tour happen in the professional manner it deserves. In today's economy sponsors are tough to get and this sort of program requires a lot of resources...and diesel fuel. Anyone with any ideas for gaining support for this effort should contact me. Your help is greatly appreciated. For the Rocky Mount, VA, tour stop we are receiving support from Comfort Inn, Golden Corral, Hometown Rentals, and of course QuicShine99 along with ex-pro football player and pro-tournement bass fisherman, Monte Spencer. Special thanks to all of them for the support.Jeff
Day one went well. Getting prepared for day two. We had a great driver turnout for this event with Paul Lewis, Brownie King, Gene Hobby, Peanut turman, and Joe Thurman there to meet the fans. Bill and Clyde Mangum from the Virginia-Carolina Early Dirt Racers along with Carlton Pugh and his vintage Ford from the ford Legends Vintage Racing Group. Hope I got that right, Carlton. We are looking forward to adding Jabe and ronnie Thomas to the group for day two along with some vintage Race cars.
