The RacersReunion Memory Lane Hall of Fame exists to recognize the grass roots of auto racing. Guidelines for recommendation for nomination to this hall are based on overall contribution to the sport on and off the track. Eligible candidates include, but are not limited to, owners, drivers, mechanics, promoters, media personnel, photographers, historians, and fabricators. Consideration goes beyond the winners circle into the heart of the sport. Special consideration is given to those who have been instrumental in the careers of or assistance to others. One of the goals of the halls board of directors in its 2009 inaugural year is to recommend those who may not have been previously recognized.The voting committee for the RacersReunion Memory Lane Hall of Fame will cast their votes for the first induction ceremony scheduled for October 10, 2009. Nominees have been organized into two categories: those living and posthumous. The hall will induct a total of fifteen nominees, ten living and five posthumous.Nominees were determined by an inaugural voting process established by the halls board of directors. Each member of the board of directors was assigned the task to independently list the top 100 candidates he felt should be considered for induction into the new hall based on pre-established guidelines. All lists were then compared to identify and group nominees according to the number of times they appeared on individual lists. Any candidate appearing on all lists would receive an automatic by-pass of the induction voting process and move to the final list of inductees. Remaining candidates were placed on the voting list by frequency of appearance on individual top-100 lists. The members of RacersReunion.com were given an opportunity to make nomination requests, and that list was given the same weight as an individual board members list.The result of nominations yielded two members by-passing the voting process and landing on the induction list. Those first members to be inducted into the RacersReunion.com Memory Lane Hall of Fame are Dink Widenhouse and Buddy Arrington. The final list of voting committee members will be published by March 15th. Members to the committee are by invitation and will have expertise and/or experience relative to racing history. The members of RacersReunion.com will also have an opportunity to vote and collectively will represent a position as one voting committee member. The RacersReunion Memory Lane Hall of Fame board of directors will not vote for the balance of inductees.
