Today, in an interview with RacersReunion, Richard Petty confirmed that our very own Tim Leeming was the first recipient of his now famous autograph. Tim Leeming became the first official Richard Petty fan on July 12, 1958 at the Columbia Speedway after Richard's first race. The King was more than willing to spend the time necessary to cover his early racing career as it began right there in Cayce, SC. We also learned that Tim had the rare opportunity to ride on a victory lap with the King, waiving the checkered flag, after one of Petty's wins at Columbia Speedway. Now we know this was the site of yet another first.Congratulations Tim!....nearly 50 years 9 months later. Just think Tim, if you had promoted this earlier in life you could have become legendary even sooner. You are the man!!!
