Appalachian Racers Reunion

Paul Lewis, my friend and inspiration, has had to cancel this year's Appalachian Racers Reunion in Jonesborough, TN. This event that was scheduled for this coming weekend (May 16th) has been held every year for the past 14....or 15 years. Just another sign of the tough times we are encountering with today's economy. It is our goal to have RR in a position to support organizations like this. Paul has worked very hard over the years to bring recognition to the pioneers of racing. I felt...and still feel that RR can heighten awareness of the needs of the Appalachian Racers Reunion, Old Timer's Racing Club, Virginia/Carolina Early Dirt Racers Association, and other such groups that have been established to support former drivers, crewmen, and their families. All these groups need our/your support. So, remember them when the economy improves....they would appreciate your donations...of time and/or $$$.Jeff

Jeff, you are so correct and we are all here to help! And, if any group wants to hold their gathering during our event in September then AIRPS will help in any manner possible. We are so fortunate to have support of the Augusta Recreation Department and their willingness to open up Diamond Lakes Regional Park for our event each year. Over 300 acres of park with modern rest rooms, air conditioned facilities and tons of room. So if your group wants a section of what we do each year just jump in at no cost! AIRPS is turning this annual event into an "Olympics for Historic/Vintage Activities".And, this park was the former Augusta International Raceway which is still intact and can be walked where "Fireball" won his last race.It does not get any better than this..................................plus you just might see the Augusta International Raceway ghost that appears as evening nears!Fun!
