Special Thanks to Andy an the Rockingham Speedway Team!!!
This was an exceptional day made possible by all the participants and the staff at Rockingham Speedway. Our RacersReunion Memory Lane Hall of Fame inductees and families were treated to an awesome day! The RacersReunion Parade of vintage race cars and show cars was also a big hit. I spoke with Andy Hillenburg this morning when Andy stated we need to start planning another event for the Polar Bear Race this coming January. So all you vintage race car folks start spreading the word, we want y'all back at "The Rock" for an even bigger Vintage Racing Exhibition. Thanks to all who participated and supported this event!Jeff
Thanks for the invite Jeff, that was fun. I had as much fun in the parking lot as I did in the stands. I like what your doing...last year after the Darlington Historic Race Festival I thought how Rockingham could host an event like that. Though it was scaled down a bit I think it was better at the Rock in one aspect, all the drivers got to mingle, share our ideas and meet some really great folks and see some old friends. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. On that note: While ya'll are reading this I invite you out to Hammerdown Speedway, in Red Springs, NC for our final show of the season. It's starting to look like our Daytona of vintage dirt track racing accept it's the final race of the year. Go to the "Events" section on the right hand side of the Main page for details "Vintage Racing at Hammerdown Speedway"
Jeff I as everyone else had a great day. you can count on me for the polar bear 150 and I hope that everyone else and a lot more will come and have as much fun as we did yesterday. Everything and all the work was worth the exprssion on Tims face as he climbed aboard the 43 car it was priceless. Andy and his group has done alot of hard work and improvements at the ROCK it looks great and the hospitality was second to none. We have been in numerous pace laps at tracks and none no better than yesterday. I only wish that the weather had been sunny and the crowd bigger. But with all the hard work and determination it want be long before the fans will be flocking to Rockingham. There was a camper that came up while we were sitting on the backside and said they had been there since saturday and had a blast and he would be back next spring. I ask him if he was coming in January he said he might attend the race but he wasnt tough enough to sleep in a tent in January. But that he could save a fortune not going to other tracks and the racing was just as good and the drivers and crews were alot more friendly than at other tracks so he will be a ROCK fan from now on. I look forward to returning with or without the old race cars.
Jeff, it was fantastic event. The 'fringe benefits' meeting, mingling, sharing ideas with other vintage enthusiasts was priceless. I'll definitely be back, with the vintage car, for the Polar Bear event.
Tim it was an honor to have the legend driving the legends car. You are one of only a few that has driven her I am very careful about who is at the controls. The problem yesterday was the toggle switch she is ready for round.Thank you for taking good care of her.
Thanks Andy, Jeff and all who made us feel welcome at the Rock. I thought I had the bigest smile on my face as I cruised my Vette around the track untill I pulled up beside the Legend. I know for sure he wet his pants as he was up on the wheel driving the famous #43 into turn one on the high side. I really wanted to put a wheel to his door as we passed by on the bottom but didn't. Tim did a great job driving the #43 and I hope he gets the ride! Also, Thanks to everyone that helped the team sell our pictures and calenders. Special thanks to all that helped us after the race.Tim Leeming is the legend and Paul Lewis is the man! Fun time!
Malcolm (my son), Brandon (nephew) and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the racing festivities. It was so exciting to see all of the vintage race cars and the reactions of those who were in the grandstands when the cars hit the track. "The Rock" is one AWESOME racetrack and I will definitely support that venue once I get back from the sandbox. Jeff and Tim - I am so glad that I've been able to meet you and be a part of the Racers Reunion/TSCM movement :o) Thank you both for being such an inspiration. Bobby, it was great meeting you! Mike, it was a pleasure seeing you again!
Unique, same here, good to see you!
Unique as I said in the previous blog you and hundreds like you are what makes RR a worthwhile venture. It is my honor to get to know all of you and again thank you for your participation and your hard work and above all your service to our country as a veteran I know the sacrifices that you are making and the dangers that you face. God bless and God speed. It was a photo moment to come up the hill Sunday morning to see Tim on his hands and knees talking to Brandon prior to the start of the race and another to see the little man sitting in the lap crashed out during the race he had a very full day. It is an honor to call each and everyone of you friends.
We also want to thank everybody involved. It was a truly wonderful experience to go there. Hope we can all come again.
