Let's help this veteran driver find his roots
During our recent trip to Tennessee, we had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing some great drivers and fans of racing's past. We will be posting some video clips from those interviews when we return home. But I wanted to start this blog now, while sitting in my motel room, because of a very touching experience we encountered. One of the drivers we interviewed was Billy Biscoe. Billy worked on various race teams and raced from the late 60's. Billy suffered a stroke in the late 90's and lost the memory of his racing career. His wife continuously shows him pictures of past trying to stimulate his memory. He had a picture with in victory lane...and he could not remember which track it was. We will post the picture this weekend when we return home. Hopefully some of you, reading this blog, will know of Billy and his racing career and will be able to give him and his wife some additional information that may help him regain some of the memories of his past.He began racing in 1967 at Sunshine Speedway in St. Petersburg, Fl. He worked closely with Jim Franklin of Franklin Quickchange Co. with r&d and testing. He was a tire changer for Firestone from 1968 through 1970. He also worked for some independent drivers (pre-winston cup) in 1970 through 1972 such as: bill Siefort, Leroy Yarbrough, Neil (Soapy) Castles, frank Warren, Ed Negre, Big John Sears and Billy Champion. He was employeed by Petty Enterprises in the 70's and served as a crew chief for Hershel McGriff in 1974.I'll continue this when I return home with more of Billy's information. If anyone knew or knew of Billy, please post your information. Thanks,Jeff
