Pennsboro Speedway
Pennsboro Speedway

Legendary dirt track that was once home to the Hillbilly 100 and the Dirt Track World Championship. Located in Pennsboro, West Virginia, this magnificent egg-shaped dirt oval had a creek running through the center of the infield requiring 2 bridges to be included in each end of the track.

I saw several races at this track in 1969 & 70 . I took a job and moved from Dayton Ohio to Bridgeport W.Va. The big deal was always labor day and really drew a big crowd. The track was only 45 minutes from my house west on rt. 50. If my memory is correct it was owned then by Pete Wilson and was known as Ritchie County Raceway. I moved back to Springfield Ohio and saw a couple dirt track world championships at KC Speedway or as it was known the, Atomic Speedway. I remember the Pennsboro track as dusty and really fast and fun to watch a race on. I hope they are able to get it going again as we close to many tracks today.

Pennsboro Speedway one of the best races you could go to. I lived in Parkersburg WV. in the 60's,70's and 80's. The Hillbilly 100 and the Dirt Track World Championship we had alot of fun. I watched the race from the hill area out of turn four.
