The flaming car is the #50 Mercury from the Marion C. Cox Garage, Hemingway, S.C. the driver was Joe Frasson.

I was there, has to be one of the most frightening crashes I ever saw outside of Don MacTavish at Daytona in 69. Don Williams a driver from Georgia was ther only injury but they are not sure what caused it, i heard they suspect a driveshaft from another car. He was in a vegetative state for 10 years before he died, He had no super speedway experience he drove at small tracks in the south. Feltsorry for him but that is the chance you take.

That indeed was a horrific wreck. Joe was so fortunate to walk away with only minor burns. Poor Don Williams though. I've upped a pic of Joe's car as it explodes at .
