Jack Edward McDonald, 72, passed away on February 28th. He was one of Junie's Army members on Donleavey's No. 90. I remember him though from his days at The Dinwiddie Speedway in 1964 & 1965. I was one of the scorekeepers and the son of the track promoter, A. J. "Red" Hower. Jack owned the TC (Topcat) car driven by George Ballance. In 1965 they won the track championship. It was a popular win in the eyes of the fans, the drivers, and the track. Everyone loved Jack. He was truly one of the unsung heroes of the sport. He raced in the days when they did it because they loved the sport. I say bring back those days and the Jack McDonalds of that time. He was truly one of the good old boys. He will be missed. I imagine that he's talking to my daddy even now about the glory days at the track. Remember Frances and her family in your prayers.
