Richard Petty's First Win at Charlotte, Feb. 1960
This is perhaps the only film footage of Richard Petty after his first win at the 1/2 mile dirt track at Charlotte. I've since forgot the photographer's name and would surely like to give him credit for this film clip he took at Charlotte Feb. 1960. The car is a 1959 Plymouth Plaza Sedan
That's a nice find Jim.
Very cool, BB. Thank you for the history. And thank you for sharing Jim!
Mr. Bovar, you just never cease to amaze me with you stories and extensive historical artifacts. I was over at Norwood today and saw the Denton sign and thought about swinging by but my wife was more interested in looking at the fall colors and less in cars. I was in Norwood looking at old Chevy Sedan, gave me a reason to take trip in the country. I'll come over, don't know when, but I'll be there soon enough someday and thanks for the offer Billy B.
I'll post a blog about the anniversary of Richard's first GN win on Feb 28, 2012. But prior to then, I'll post these two pics. When I visited the RP Museum last spring, I saw this same photo on the wall with the accompanying plaque saying it was made from a frame of a video recording of the race. No attribution to the videographer was given there either.
Well, I guess I'll have to change the title on the photo to read "Richard Petty's first win at Charlotte."As the youngsters would say "My Bad"
Awesome!
