I can't imagine why they had an AMC Pacer at Daytona. Nothing about this hunk of metal was impressive or worthy of being at a NASCAR race.

Roger Penske owned MIS. There had been a Penske - AMC connection since 1970, SCCA TransAm then NASCAR. I'm sure AMC paid the $$$ for the advertising. There were AMC billboards and sign-age around the track. AMC provided the pace cars for a few years at MIS. That "fish bowl" made for a strange looking pace car. Seems like they used Hornets also.
